TAKEMEOUTONIGHT Podcast - Issue 2 (30.2 MB, 33 mins, mp3 file)

Fuck Me USA - Lens Cap
FMUSA
Dan - bass Kayla - vox Jay - keys/guitar Brad - drums

An unreleased song from the now defunct Victoria/Vancouver area band. They had one split 7" with Channels 3&4 that came out in the Fall of 2003. They were too short lived in my opinion. I was lucky enough to see FMUSA a few times before they ceased to exist in December 2003. They were formed when Jay Watts left Ghosts and then Jay left FMUSA and Vancouver for Montreal where he remains to this day. Brad now plays drums in Radio Berlin and Bakelite. Kayla is in Channels 2&3 (not to be confused with Channels 3&4). Kayla and I actually used to have a nite together called CRIME, it lasted about 3 months until she got bored and I moved to London. But that's what happens.

Wolf Parade - Modern World
Wolf Parade
Spencer - keys Hadji - laptop/etc Arlen - drums Dan - guitar

Wolf Parade may be from Montreal but they are British Columbian boys thru and thru, all of them have lived in Victoria at some point. Spencer was in the first line up of Frog Eyes and Dan was in Atlas Strategic who toured with Modest Mouse and also had an offer from Sub Pop before they broke up. This is the original self released version of this song. You can find this song on Wolf Parade's Apologies to the Queen Mary on Sub Pop but it sounds quite different. I definitely prefer this version; unfortunately it was only released on an out of print CD. The one time I saw Wolf Parade it was a bit of a let down. The opening bands ran on too long and Wolf Parade was only allowed to play for 15 minutes because the venue had to shut by a certain time. I was most disappointed.

Call Me Poupee - Rumbamaniac
Call Me Poupee

Comprised of ex-Secretaires Volantes and The Slips members, this Montreal duo (now three-piece as they have added a drummer!) has been playing around with their own brand of minimalist rock'n'roll and synthy rumba for the last year now. Call Me Poupee are releasing their debut album in February 2006.

Smoosh - The Quack
Smoosh
Asya - vocals/keys Chloe - drums

Incredibly young, cute, sister duo from the Pacific Northwest. I love the fact they are just drums and keyboard. This is one of their not so serious songs. They have one album out, She Is Electric on Pattern 25 and a new one just recorded. Chloe actually takes drum lessons from the guy in Death Cab for Cutie. Ha!

You Say Party! We Say Die! - Midnight Snack
You Say Party! We Say Die!
Bruce - drums Steve - bass Derek - guitar Jason - guitar Becky - vocals Krista - keys

Five piece from the bible belt of the Lower Mainland, Abbotsford. It must get boring out in the stix but luckily for us YSP have been using their free time to jam. These guys recently toured across Canada, have a full length album, Hit the Floor, out on new label Sound Document (and should be out soon in the UK on Pure Groove), and feature members of Fun 100 and Skort. Becky and I were friends when we were 15!

Negative for Francis - Love Bug
Negative For Francis

This is their debut single, a double a-side featuring this song as well as the song "Losing Control" which came out just last week on Marquis Cha Cha. Comparisons to Rock Lobster are already on their way. All hail Negative For Francis London's new disco-punk band of the moment.

Glass Candy - Life After Sundown
Glass Candy
Ida - vocals Johnny Jewel - producer Dusty Sparkles - stuff

Glass Candy and the Shattered Theatre hail from Portland, Oregon. Some of their other stuff is quite noisy but this is definitely a dance floor favourite. Nice bass-y bits. Being from Vancouver (which is generally the same neck of the woods as Portland) I've been lucky enough to see Glass Candy a few times. They are busy working on a new album for Troubleman Unlimited.
